About Steve
My professional mission is to help you overcome challenges in your life so you can begin to thrive. We do this together by creating strategies based on proven therapeutic approaches and positive psychology interventions.
This strategy-based focus is well-suited to stress and anxiety, depression, life skills development, difficult life transitions, conflict resolution, and parenting challenges. It comes from my broad background not only in psychotherapy but also in education, business ownership, and executive and personal leadership coaching.
Mindfulness is an important component of my approach. I incorporate mindfulness-based interventions like ACT and MBSR to teach you skills and help you create strategies for managing stress, anxiety, and depression. My approach is interactive, including teaching you concepts and designing activities together for you to try, and then reviewing the results to make the activities and strategies more effective.
I have specialty training in working with children and adolescents so I can adapt these approaches to their developmental level. This experience plus my background working with families gives me insight when coaching parents on family leadership. It is very meaningful for me to support parents who want to take an intentional approach to shaping their family’s culture and guiding their children’s social and emotional development.
I am especially honored to work with men who are struggling with difficult thoughts, feelings, or relationships. There is a lot of cultural pressure on men to ignore their inner lives and reject the richness of emotional connection and relatedness. It takes a lot of courage to stand up to that pressure.

About You
Although I haven’t met you, I know some things about you. I know you are a unique individual, with strengths, talents and potential to develop. You’re not a label. You’re a complex person balancing many life roles.
I also assume you’re struggling. If you’re looking for a counselor, I imagine you’re facing a huge challenge that is causing you distress.
There are things I know about you because they’re true for all people. For example, I understand how habits develop, including habits of thought. I understand how feelings shape and influence and sometimes take over our choices. And I understand how frustrating it can be when you really want to change what you’re doing but can’t find a way to make those changes last.
While I understand these inner processes generally, I don’t yet know how they are specifically influencing you. They generate your inner resources like strengths, talents, and values and they shape your overall personality. But they also play a role in your struggle with disruptive thoughts and unwelcome feelings.
My commitment to you is that I will listen to you and learn about you to understand how these processes are specifically affecting you, both helping and hindering you. And I will help you learn about these processes and their affect on you so you can understand yourself better and develop new strategies and approaches ease the struggle as you face the challenge.
